Wenda Nel became the first South African woman ever to win a medal in the 400m Hurdles at a Commonwealth Games when she won bronze this afternoon. Nel led for much of the race and fought off the challengers to cross the line in 54.96s.
An elated Nel said “I am so happy to win this medal, I can’t tell you how much it means to me! There have been ups and downs over the past few years, and to achieve this is a dream come true. Thank you to my whole support team who have stood by me and helped me get this result.”
