Olympic Day 2022 Events Announced

Mr Barry Hendricks, SASCOC President and Ms Nozipho Jafta, SASCOC CEO, are proud to announce the Olympic Day events for 2022, as SASCOC continues to strive to raise the profile of the Olympic movement and its Olympic values in South Africa.

This year’s Olympic Day builds on the success of the last year’s pop-up museum, and will now involve eight events across two cities from the 14th – 26th June.

Johannesburg and Durban will play host to golf days, an open water swimming event, skateboarding, BMX and breakdancing exhibition as well as a pop-up Olympic Museum at both Gateway Theatre of Shopping and Fourways Mall.

Mr Hendricks said “SASCOC believes that all South Africans recognise the power and meaning of the Olympic Games to unite our nation and build national pride. This year we again team up with Newton Agency to create numerous events for families, individuals and corporates to get involved with, so we would like to invite you to join us this Olympic Day, to celebrate and support Team SA.”

Olympic Day is a commemoration of the day the International Olympic Committee (IOC) was founded, when, on the 23rd June 1894, delegates from 12 countries assembled in Paris and voted unanimously to support Pierre de Coubertin’s proposal to revive the Olympic Games. National Olympic Committees (NOCs) are encouraged to organise an event to celebrate Olympic day and promote the Olympic ideals in their countries.
