First Console Conqueror crowned

On Tuesday night some of South Africa’s best sportsmen and women came together in order to win bragging rights at Console Conqueror. This was a first of its kind, unique event where Newton Agency partnered with PlayStation SA to give our sports stars from across codes an opportunity to show off their -e-gaming skills in a Fifa 18 tournament.

In attendance were Bafana Bafana stars including Itumeleng Khune, Anele Ngcongca, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Bernard Parker and Lorenzo Gordihno, Protea all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo as well as World Champion gold and silver medalists Luvo Manyonga and Ruswahl Samaai. Other track stars included Junior World record holder and Olympian Clarence Munyai, Junior World Champion medalist and Olympian Gift Leotlela, Youth Olympic gold medalist Gezelle Magerman, as well as second fastest youth in the world Malesela Senona, sub-10’s club member Thando Roto and female sprint star Tebogo Mematu.

“Professional athletes always brag about who is best at PlayStation games, but no one has ever given them an opportunity to officially play each other and back up their claims!” said Lee-Roy Newton, group MD, “It was great to have such a fun, relaxed evening with top athletes across sports, but at the same time to see their competitive natures kick in while playing. That’s what Console Conqueror is all about”.

In the end the Bafana Bafana stars showed their skills extended beyond the field, with Sibusiso Vilakazi and Lorenzo Gordihno making it through to the final where Gordihno clinched a exciting 1-0 win in the dying seconds of the game.
