Agency clients walked away from the South African National Athletics Championships held in Potchefstroom this weekend with a very successful 10 medal haul.
In the keenly anticipated 100m men’s event Thando Roto had an outstanding performance under pressure, winning bronze in a time of 10.04, only just been beaten by current SA record holder Akani Simbine and 400m world record holder Wayde van Niekerk. Young Olympian Gift Leotlela also won bronze in the 200m event behind the same two men, running a PB of 20.20 seconds.
Luvo Manyong was the other outstanding performance of the championships with a SA, Africa and Commonwealth long-jump record of 8.65m.
Other national titles were won by Wenda Nel (400m hurdles), Rikenette Steenkamp (100m hurdles) and Le Roux Hamman (400m hurdles), with silver medals going to Jaco Engelbrecht (shot put) and Tebogo Mamatu (100m).
Clarence Munyai ran an impressive 20.25s in the 200m just missing out on a medal, as did Taylon Beeldt in the women’s 100m hurdles.
