Luvo Manyonga added a silver to his ever growing collection of major championship medals, when he jumped 8.44m on Friday night in Birmingham at the IAAF World Indoor Championships, and in so doing, broke his own South African and African record.
This is Mayonga’s first ever World Indoor Championships and he was thrilled with his new PB, “I am so happy to break the record! Although, of course, you always want to win, I couldn’t be happier with my results knowing that I gave all that I had. To jump this distance so early in the season makes me excited for the upcoming Commonwealth Games and the Diamond League later this year. Thank you to my whole support team both here in Birmingham and back home, I couldn’t do this without you”.
Lee-Roy Newton, group MD, was also impressed with Manyonga’s form, “Luvo has now broken the South African record three times and the African record twice in the space of 5 weeks, and to add this silver to his 2017 World Championship gold shows the caliber of the athlete he his”.
